Creator bio: Samuel Julian Grace is an Irish–Salvadoran artist based in Germany, working primarily with sound. His practice explores how people experience and make sense of artworks, how perception, attention, and understanding unfold over time. Rather than producing fixed objects, Samuel creates active works that change through interaction, inviting viewers and listeners to participate in the work’s meaning.
Description of work + title: Many Ears - Few Voices
Many Ears, Few Voices is a sound installation by Samuel Julian Grace.
The work investigates the power of listening as a singular, active sense.
As a way to negate sensory overload, it creates a space where listening comes to the forefront and allows listeners to focus on one sense, singularly.
Activated by performance, it also offers a shared listening experience, a collectively experienced event.
The work is played over a multichannel horn speaker system, taking the horn as a symbol of amplified voices, something said, something projected to an ear.
The installation invites participants to take a minute to settle and be focused on one sense singularly.
