Adam Gibney

Bio: Through his transdisciplinary practice, Adam Gibney utilises a range of media, including electronics, coding, sound, and digital fabrication methods, to critically examine the production and consumption of knowledge across multiple epistemological frameworks. His work engages scientific, philosophical, spiritual, and esoteric approaches to understanding reality, employing live computational processes to create intra-active artworks that question and destabilise the assumptions underpinning these systems. 

Title: Poem 8: Trust We

Project Description: The work is a distributed network of electro-fitted domestic objects reflecting on the post-truth era, climate change, and climate denial. Presented as a DIY assembly kit and manual, each kit—or “verse”—transforms an unused vase, inspired by those found in Dublin charity shops, into a telematic artwork. Placed on a windowsill, a sensor compares the outside temperature to historical records; when three vases in the network independently confirm a record-breaking temperature, the work activates, releasing a mist scented like rotting flowers while a verse from a poem plays through a small speaker. The full poem only emerges when participants share their verses, suggesting that truth forms through collective disclosure. The project will be exhibited through a working demonstration of three vases and a display of the DIY kit and manual for future distribution.
