István László

Bio: István László is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of sculpture, extended reality XR, and archival data. His practice examines how digital objects, once embedded in networks of extraction, infrastructure, and computation, can be reconfigured as sites of reflection and public engagement. Through 3D modelling, game engines, and participatory interfaces, he creates data-driven artworks that translate environmental processes into spatial and embodied experiences. Rather than presenting data as abstract information, he treats it as material: sculptural, relational, and responsive. Biodiversity records, atmospheric measurements, and ecological signals become dynamic forms that unfold through proximity, interaction, and temporal change.

Title: Signal Ecologies

Project Description: His current work explores the entanglement between technological systems and living organisms. By placing digitally reconstructed insects drawn from open-source biodiversity data alongside plant structures and environmental flows within the architecture of consumer devices and media infrastructures, he reveals the ecological dependencies embedded within contemporary digital life. The work stages a tension between micro-ecologies and technological enclosures, inviting reflection on attention, extraction, and care. Within the SEED project, he is developing a framework for sensory engagement with environmental data—an evolving toolkit that supports artists in translating datasets into multisensory, participatory experiences and encourages ecological attunement rather than distant representation.
