JENNIFER O’BRIEN

JENNIFER O’BRIEN (IRELAND)

Jennifer O’Brien is a Meath born artist whose practice interrogates the aftereffects of the Irish state’s pursuit of modernity, mapping how these ambitions continue to shape both the landscape and lived experience of contemporary Ireland, to produce work across installation, film, sculpture and text. Central to O’Brien’s practice is a desire to understand the spaces beneath, between, or beside infrastructures such as Motorways, data centres and IKEA. Rather than reproducing narratives of progress she is interested in the moments of stasis, failure, and absurdity that emerge within them that reveal an unexpected harmony between the banal and the spectacular.
