Thinking about Permacomputing: can we engage with technology sustainably?

Thinking about Permacomputing: can we engage with technology sustainably?

Tickets released 9th October.

Our relationship with technology is a profoundly wasteful one, our devices are made to be disposable, our services powered by polluting datacenters and our apps and tools now full of so-called "AI". Permacomputing is a movement of sustainability and resilience in technology, seeking to question our relationship with it through a practice of community and practical experimentation.

Through this workshop, we will contemplate permacomputing and our engagement with technology through the process of creating a webring, a social assemblage of websites. Together, we will learn how to build a website using HTML and CSS. Then we will explore sustainable ways in which we can host and share content, using things like solar power, recycled phones and more.

Creator Bio:

Evan and Colm join their practices via the idea of Permacomputing. Their individual practices deal with small-scale computing, solar powered systems, and repurposed hardware. Together, they propose a Permacomputing Hub for Ireland, where some of the most outrageous technological excesses take place. In the future, the Irish Permacomputing Hub hopes to welcome other practionners who work with similar concerns, whether they describe this as permacomputing or not.
