UbeBoobey Workshop

UbeBoobey (UK)

UbeBoobey (Annike Tan) is a 22-year-old London-based creator who went viral on TikTok for building whimsical, sci-fi-inspired DIY computers known as "cyberdecks". Her distinct, aesthetic-driven creations—like the pearl-encrusted "mermaid cyberdeck"—have brought mainstream attention to a niche tech subculture

Alan James Burns Solo Exhibition

Alan James Burns

Pronouns: They/Them

Medium: Interactive, sensor-driven installations, audio-visual performance, sound art and spatialised environments

Overview: AlanJames Burns is a neurodivergent, environmental and audio-visual artist, curator, festival maker and researcher whose practice is rooted in interactive, socially engaged, site-specific and sensory experiences. Their work explores the intersections of neurodiversity, climate change, disability justice and embodied perception, often centring collaborative processes with diverse communities.

Notable Commissions/Projects: Unmasking Nature - A guided sensory experience co-created with neurodivergent collaborators at Cavan Burren Park, exploring joyful and intuitive engagement with natural environments through sensory cues, foraging and more-than-human communication.

Serena Devereux Exhibition

Serena Devereux

Pronouns:

Medium: Digital media & computational art, interactive and networked systems, generative visuals and synthetic artefacts, video, code-based processes and digital ecology exploration

Overview: Serena Ply is a multidisciplinary visual and digital artist whose practice emerges at the intersection of digital ecosystems, networked spaces, and media ecology. Their work engages with synthetic media, computational processes and digital environments, exploring how technology shapes perception, identity and relational frameworks between humans and systems. Serena’s practice balances critical inquiry with experimental media, situating generative and networked forms within broader cultural narratives.

Notable Commissions/Projects: FLUX collaboration, The Complex ‘Synthetic Artefacts’ exhibition.

About the work: Cybernetic Ecologies is a data driven, hybrid installation, utilising real-time local weather data, feedback loops and interactive technologies in order to recontextualise posthumanist ideologies through a cybernetic lens within the digital era. Primarily this line of inquiry is concerned with embodiment and the hybridisation or dissolution of otherness dividing the digital, the self and the environment, by means of understanding surfaces, specifically our landscapes, as informational patterns and positioning the skin as a membrane where data resides.

In a rigorous exploration of rhizomatic networks, this work explores the fluidity and interconnectedness existing between human and non-human systems, drawing parallels between data infrastructures and invasive plant species; contextualising the relationship between them and their surrounding environments as a cybernetic system in itself. Developing upon this speculative approach in reconciling cybernetics and posthumanism, Cybernetic Ecologies examines the landscape as a prosthesis of memory, extending both human and machine consciousness to become embedded within the natural environment, facilitating the emergence of one larger ecosystem, a networked reality produced by ubiquitous data flows.

1iing Exhibition

1iing

Pronouns: They/Them

Medium: Computer-generated imagery (CGI), 3D scanning and animation

Overview: 1iing Heaney is an Irish digital and visual artist whose practice uses CGI, 3D scanning, animation, sound and sculpture to explore the liminal spaces between data, technology and the geological world. Their work probes how nature and digital mediation intersect; examining disconnection from the physical earth while imagining speculative forms of “uncanny nature” within virtual environments.

Notable Commissions/Projects: Mermaid Arts Centre, Pallas Projects, Ballina Arts Centre, iCRAG (Science Foundation Ireland)

About the work: As part of the Beta Festival 2026, Liing will be presenting a new body of work that is currently in development as part of their practice-led Masters by Research study in IADT. Focusing on the Bog of Allen in the Midlands, Liing is considering this post-industrial landscape as a site where multiple energies converge through human, animal, plant, cosmic, and technologic interactions. This research has been developed through fieldwork, 3D scanning and CGI studies, and framed through the lens of experimental geography, new materialism, and a critique of eco-modernity.

Currently, Liing is working with a 3D scanned Irish Elk from the Vienna Museum of Natural History found online. Inspired by Barrie Cooke’s painting Megaceros Hibernicus depicting an Irish Elk emerging from fog, its antlers as ‘massive antennae transmitting… a message from the past’, Liing asked the question ‘how does this transmission from the past manifest in its new digital environment?’ Using 3D animation combined with Machine & Reinforcement Learning in the robotics software Isaac Lab, Liing has been teaching this 3D scan how to walk, with the aim of it learning how to navigate in the digital space it exists in.

Though this work is still in its development phase, Liing is aiming to display the live Reinforcement Learning of this 3D scan as part of the festival.
