The F Word

ni**le is a short performance about image moderation. You'll be given paper and pencil and you'll have chance to draw some drawings and think some thoughts. The model promises to hold as still as she can, but she's not going to shut up. It's about 'community standards' on the online platforms where we tell other people about ourselves and tell ourselves we are Doing Politics. It's about how 'community standards' starts to sound very weird if you use the definition of community I like, which is people who would drive you to the airport or visit you in hospital. Too narrow? Another one: your community is the group of people from whom you can expect accountability. Either way, most of your mutuals aren't making the cut and Meta definitely isn't. So what community's community standards are we really talking about, when gay clubs get shadowbanned or a painter's lifedrawings get flagged? Who's making the policies? Who's making the individual judgement calls? Who isn't in the loop at all? And how can we make sure we don't forget them?

Tickets to be released 9th October.
